June 11th from 2-3pm “Cancer in New Jersey: How Far We Have Come and What We Have Done!”

  • Presenters: Dr. Steven Libutti & Dr. Anita Kinney
  • Topics include: how the cancer burden is unevenly distributed among NJ’s population (including by geography, race/ethnicity, age, and gender); current NJ efforts to prevent, screen for, and detect cancer; and evidence-based programs and systems that can be leveraged to improve cancer screening access and reduce these disparities statewide

June 11th from 3-4pm “Food for Thought – Experience From Beyond NJ: Successes in Reducing Colorectal Cancer Deaths Through Early Detection and Follow Up Leveraging Community Partnerships and Local Health Systems”

  • Presenter: Dr. Celette Skinner; introduction by Dr. Anita Kinney
  • Topics include: guidelines for colorectal cancer screening, system-level and implementation strategies to improve colorectal cancer screening rates (especially in safety net settings), and how strategies may adapted to improve lung cancer screening in NJ

June 25th from 2-3pm “Understanding What’s New About Lung Cancer Screening & Integrating Smoking Cessation Into Community Education and Primary Care Practice Effectively”

  • Presenters: Dr. Michael Steinberg & Heather Jordan
  • Topics include: guidelines for lung cancer screening and tobacco cessation, basic epidemiology of tobacco use and lung cancer in NJ, how to conduct tobacco use assessment and patient referral to cessation services, and strategies to effectively address individual, organizational, and system-level barriers to lung cancer screening

June 25th from 3-4pm “Working with ScreenNJ: Developing a Program, Applying for Funding, and Measuring Success”

  • Presenters: Dr. Rita Musanti & Emily Carey PerezdeAlejo
  • Topics include: options for partnering with ScreenNJ, how to prepare and submit a funding application, and how to measure and evaluate your progress on cancer screening

About ScreenNJ

ScreenNJ is a collaborative project, led by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Health and organizations throughout New Jersey, to improve colorectal and lung cancer outcomes. The objectives of ScreenNJ are to increase screening for colorectal and lung cancer and to educate providers and staff in healthcare and community organizations about new and emerging best practices in cancer screening, early detection, and prevention.

Continuing Education Accreditation Notices

The following statements apply to the sessions scheduled for June 11th from 2-3PM, June 11th from 3-4PM, and June 25th from 2-3PM; full details including objectives, speakers, and disclosures, are listed on the Registration Pages for each session:
  • An application has been submitted to award Certified Health Specialists (CHES) and Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) up to 1.0 total Category I Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH).  Maximum Advanced-level contact hours available are 1.0. The Rutgers Center for Public Health Workforce Development is a designated multiple event provider of CECHs by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
  • An application is pending for 1.0 NJ Public Health Continuing Education continuing education credits. Rutgers School of Public Health has been approved by the New Jersey Department of Health as a provider of New Jersey Public Health Continuing Education Contact Hours (CEs).
In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
  • This activity is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and ANCC contact hours.
